PreKnight project was one of the first 14 seed money projects that were approved by EU in June 2013. It contributed directly to EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region Horizontal action “Neighbours” which highlights the concrete cooperation between EU member states and non-EU countries in the Baltic Sea region. Project aim is to create regional knowledge network.
Activities
The idea of energy-saving and energy efficiency is important for advanced and catching-up businesses of different scale as well as for countries, regions and municipalities, scientists and ordinary citizens.
There is general need to bring together partners “across the border” in the Baltic Sea Region, with a special emphasis on cooperation with regional Russian partners. The issue of energy-saving was chosen as the common subject for joining actors from Baltic Sea area metropolises, and developing the most promising solutions that should lead to the creation of regional knowledge network aimed at transfer of technologies and spill-over of information on best practices and new solutions on energy- and resource-saving.
PreKnight -project will lasted a year and
during its implementation project partners developed a plan for
wider main project. This seed money project brought together Finnish, Russian and
German partners to share their expertise and to develop wide
knowledge network in green housing technologies.
Work in the project was based on triple-helix principle where business, academia and public administration are brought together. All sectors are needed to solve demanding and multi-sided challenges where one partner alone can not achieve the results. Multi-level governance as well as public-private partnerships are highlighted in the later developed main project.
