CiNURGI focuses on upgrading current infrastructure and technology to enhance nutrient recovery from biomass and resource streams from agricultural, municipal, and industrial sources. The project will develop and promote standards for the safe and sustainable recycling of nutrients, as well as evaluate market opportunities and challenges.
The primary objective of CiNURGi is to facilitate the implementation of the HELCOM Baltic Sea Regional Nutrient Strategy, as well as the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. Additionally, CINURGi supports other frameworks including the EU’s new Circular Economy Action Plan under the Green Deal and the Integrated Nutrient Management Action Plan of the Farm-to-Fork Strategy. CiNURGi also contributes to EUSBSR policy areas PA Nutri and PA Bioeconomy.
Key activities of CiNURGi involve:
- Developing standards for safe and sustainable nutrient recycling.
- Formulating strategies for nutrient recycling to improve regional nutrient balances.
- Promoting the acceptance and use of recycled nutrients.
- Exploring business opportunities in nutrient recycling.
- Enhancing policy coherence in nutrient recycling in the Baltic Sea Region.
