The role of Centrum Balticum in the project: Within Work Package Policy Development and Branding, Centrum Balticum was responsible for organising international events, facilitating policy dialogue and developing key outputs related to the project’s policy work. The foundation coordinated the creation of the triple helix database. The project culminated in an international SmartComp Final Conference in November 2013 in Turku, where the results and achievements of the project were presented to a wide range of participants.

Project description:

SmartComp aimed to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of maritime clusters in the Central Baltic Region by promoting cooperation between academia, industry and public authorities. The project focused on building networks, analysing the development potential of regional maritime clusters and identifying innovative business models and policy tools supporting long-term growth.

Objectives:

  • Increase national awareness and understanding of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and its objectives.
  • Provide accessible and up-to-date information on the Strategy, its governance and funding opportunities.
  • Strengthen and expand the Finnish stakeholder network involved in implementing the EUSBSR.

Key actions & results:

  • Established a national website providing information on the EUSBSR, its governance, priorities, funding opportunities and activities.
  • Expanded the Finnish stakeholder network and organised meetings and information events across Finland.
  • Produced communication materials and practical guidance to support stakeholder engagement and participation in the Strategy.
