The Kaliningrad Region and COVID-19

The effects of COVID-19 in the world, in the Russian Federation, and in particular in the Kaliningrad Region of Russia in the early 2020 disrupted a relatively steady pace of life and conditions of the socio-economic development of the Russian exclave in the Baltic Sea region. The Kaliningrad Region battled a new insidious disease in line with the federal policy, yet having certain local features. This report, based on the materials of the year 2020, considers issues related to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Kaliningrad Region, the measures which were taken and the situation that developed by the end of the year are briefly described. Moreover, an attempt is made to assess the impact of the pandemic on individual sectors of the economy of the Russian exclave, the Kaliningrad Region.
