This year the Baltic Sea Region Forum was for the first time held as an online event. The theme of the Forum was the Turbulent World Order and the Baltic Sea Region. Experts discussed the geopolitical situation in the region and explored ways to ensure its future security.

After the Ukraine crisis in 2014, the Baltic Sea Region security scene entered a period of turbulence and uncertainty. Contrary to some assessments, the Region’s security situation did not escalate, and has since then resumed some stability. Today, the global security scene is in turmoil, bringing new challenges also to the Baltic Sea Region.

The Baltic Sea Region plays a key role in the relationship between Russia and the West. On one hand, the Region has been a focal point of geopolitical tensions throughout history. On the other hand, the Region has also formed a bridge between East and West through interregional cooperation.
21.04.2021 Collaborative climate action – turning global challenges into opportunities
Many factors have contributed to the increasingly turbulent world order, not the least the global pandemic. Even if the pandemic has dominated the news, other challenges remain. This year, the Baltic Sea Region Forum will address the geopolitical situation of the Baltic Sea Region, as well as the internal security of the Region.
The first project platforms kicked off in 2018 and Centrum Balticum has been onboard since the beginning. We were in charge of communications of the Clean Shipping Project Platform (CSHIPP). As CSHIPP collaboration is now coming to an end, it’s time to look back and reflect a little bit on what has been achieved.

BALEX has kicked off a new project, EUBalt, that focuses on the role of the European Union in Baltic Sea region cooperation and regulation. The output of the project will be an edited book, constituting a collection of articles.
01.03.2021 Baltic Rim Economies 1/2021: A special issue on the Baltic Sea protection
The BRE's first issue of the year is devoted to the Baltic Sea protection. It includes high level authors, such as Krista Mikkonen, Finnish Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and Minna Arve, Mayor of City of Turku and diverse expert articles on topics, such as agriculture, the Archipelago sea, shipping and sustainable tourism.
