Leveraging bioeconomy development for climate change mitigation and adaptation in the Baltic Sea Region

Climate change is projected to have profound impacts on the functioning of natural ecosystems, on biodiversity, and on societies in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly through affecting the bioeconomy sectors. This policy brief explores opportunities and implications from bioeconomy development for climate action in the region. It also elaborates on actions that may facilitate the sustainability of bioeconomy. The policy brief concludes that scientific collaborations across borders in the Baltic Sea Region could help generate accelerated innovations in order to successfully leverage bioeconomy development for climate action. Sustainable bioeconomy development, in its turn, can provide with considerable opportunities for green growth and economic competiveness.
